南半球よりこにゃにゃちわ

ふぃー疲れた。

木曜の夜遅い便に乗って、
金曜の朝、シドニー到着。そしてそのまま飛行機乗り継いで
メルボルンまで来ました。オーストラリアの南の端です。
でも、南半球なので、とても寒いです。
ちなみに着いたら、気温が11度でした。ブルル。

その足でメルボルンの
The Museum of Moving Imageへ。
日本語に訳すと、『映像の博物館』ということになるのかな？
映画だけではなく、インタラクティブなもの、
たとえばメディアアートの展示もあります。

メルボルンでは今、Arts Festivalが行われていて、
音楽やら、映画やら、演劇やら、総合的なお祭りを開催中。
その一環で、ゲームというのも真面目に捉えています。
そして僕は、夜に映画館を会場にして
『Emotional and Invisible Game Design』というタイトルで
英語のスピーチをしました。
会場にはオーストラリアの学生さんを中心に、
政府関係者とか、学校の先生とか、いろんな方々がおりました。

英語のスピーチというのは
原稿を読み上げながら喋るのだけど、
やっぱりそれだと気持ちが伝わらなくて、
結局途中から、デタラメでもいいから、
自分のリアルタイムの気持ちで喋ったら、
なんとなくうまくいった。

終わって関係者のディナーでは、
世界のあちらこちらから集まってるクリエーターやら先生やらと
みんなで楽しく大騒ぎ。
話しているうちに、The Museum of Moving Imageの館長は
オーストラリア在住のイタリア人だわ、
シンガポールの国立大学で教えている先生はロシア人だわ、
バーチャルリアリティのアーティストはニューヨークだわ、
なんだかとっても国際的で、いつもと違う感覚で楽しい。

話題もブッシュ・ケリーの話、
先週行われたオーストラリアの総選挙の話、
日本の小泉さんの話、そして中国、ロシアの話と盛り上がり、
なんだか自分がとても地球に生きてる気がして、
オモシロかった。

シンガポール在住のロシア人に聞いた話では、
タイには「水上を歩く魚」がいるらしい。
僕が「魚に足が生えてるの？」と訊いたら、
足ではなく、ヒレだそうで。それならなんとなく解る。
でもそのあとすかさず彼女が、
「チェルノブイリの事故の後、足の生えた魚がいっぱい発見されたのよ」
の一言にビックリおののく。
ちなみに、僕の隣のやつのメインディッシュは魚だった。

ワイン飲みすぎてホテルに戻り、
寝ようと思ったら足の生えた魚が
チェルノブイリの街をうろうろ歩いてるイメージが頭から離れず、
思わず日記に書いてみる。

でももう眠くなってきた。
おやすみなさい。

Hey, how’re you doing? From the Southern sphere.

Phyyy, tired.

On Thursday late night, I left Tokyo, and in the following morning, arrived in Sydney, and made connection, and finally, came to Melbourne. Melbourne lies in the south of Australia. Well, there is in the Southern sphere and so it is very cold in the south area. The temperature was only 11 degrees centigrade when I arrived here. Bruru…, I shiver with cold.

I went to “The Museum of Moving Image” as soon as I left the airport. There are not only films but also exhibitions of media art and something interactive like that.

In Melbourne, Arts Festival is now open. It is a synthetic festival. I mean there are many entertainments, music, films, drama, and so on at the festival. As form a part of entertainment, they think much of game. And I made a speech which named “Emotional and Invisible Game Design” at the cinema in the evening. There were mainly Australian students, teachers, governmental people, and many kinds of people there.

When I make an English speech, I usually speak with the help of a note but it’s difficult to tell them my feeling. And so this time, in the midst of my speech, I began to speak without a note, and told them my real-time feeling. Then, somehow it went well, I thought.

Afterwards, I had dinner with the persons concerned. There were many artists and teachers from all parts of the world, at the cheerful joyful dinner.

Then, I knew that the curator of the Museum of Moving Image is Italian residents in Australia. The Singapore national university professor is Russian. And the virtual reality artist is New Yorker. It was quite international and quite different feeling from usual, and so I’ve been really enjoying it.

The topic of conversation were about Bush and Kerry, the Australian general election which done last week, Japanese Prime Minister Koizumi, China, and Russia. We had very nice conversation. Then, I realised that I am alive on the earth and the feeling was interesting.

According to the Russian residents in Singapore, there is fish walking on water in Thailand.

“Does the fish have legs?” I asked her. Then, she said it was not legs but fins. Then, I got it. But she promptly said,

“You know, after the accident of Chernobyl, lots of fish, which had legs, were discovered.”

And I was surprised and trembled with her words. Well, it was fish that the main dish of my neighbour at table.

I came back to the hotel after drank wine too much. Although I was going to bed soon, I was haunted by the thought that the fish was walking in the town in Chernobyl. That was why I wrote it on the diary instinctively.

But now, I feel sleepy at last. Good night.
